6 Minute English - Odd job interviews








Now, Finn I'd like to start by asking you how many job interviews do you have?

That's difficult. Maybe ten interviews in my life.

Yes, with me, they are torture. I hate been grayed by panel or group of people. I know I can do the job, but I hate having to convince them. Today we're going discussing all the job interview and looking some related vocabulary. So Finn are you ready for your first interview question?

Good to hear. Well it's important to know what type of job you have been interviewed before. Some job titles are a bit exaggerated. So what type of job have been named a field acknowledgement consultant. Is it
a) a waitress
b) a school dinner lady
c) a patrol station assistance

Let's talk more about job interview. A traditional interview usually involves being asked a list of questions. And sometimes you have to give a short presentation.

Yes, question like why do you want this job? Or where do you see yourself in five years time.

Yes, that's a tricky one to answer. But some interviewers the people who ask questions go a bit further and ask interviewees, the people who been interviewed,  to do some inappropriate things.

You mean they are asked to do things that are not really relevant to the job. Such as XXX, a university graduate, who last year was asked to do a dumps.

Yes, you will maybe the position or job with a dancer, or children antenna.

Oh no, it was actually for a job as a sales assistance in an electronic shop. So someone who works on shop floor, giving a advice to customers about what to buy.

Poor Allen. He found degraded. So he lost respect from other people. And he found humiliated. So he found embarrassed and ashamed.

So that's how he felt on the inside but he wanted the job so he put on the braved face. A positive attitude and smile his face. He even laughed.

And well later on, he did complained and he got an appaluge.

But expert said there are now too many candidates chasing  too few jobs so companies are trying  XXXX, not traditional ways of recruiting people to see who stands out.

Yes well, in any job interview, it's good to leave a last impression that means to get noticed and make people remember you. And I suppose doing a dance is good way breaking a ice and making people feel relax. That's being asked to do something outside your comfort zone also seems unfair to me.

Yes, but I guess if you want that job, you'll do anything.

Almost.

I heard about people who have to sing in a interview and also role playing pretending to being someone else, acting in the situation.

I find just being asked odd or random questions in the interview can make you uncomfortable.  And US employment website carry out the survey about this and discover some strange questions.

Yes, I did. Such as how would you cure world hunger? And if you were a computer program, which one would you be? So here is one for you Finn. If you were word in a English language, which word would you be?

Which word would you be? Come on, that's unfair. Just ask me out that. That's outside my comfort zone, Rob.

Indeed, I'll trying to break the ice, Finn. Not mind.  I'll give you a job anyway. Seriously, there is no perfect way to interview someone for a job. If you are having a job interview, my advice will be to keep calm, think before you speak. And if you are asked to do something inappropriate,  tell him how you feel about it. And If although fail, you could use a bribe. What do you think?
